چکیده

At present time, ASF is endemic in more than 20 countries of sub-Saharan Africa. In Europe, it has been endemic since 1978, on the Italian island of Sardinia. In June 2007, an outbreak was reported in Georgia and, since then, the virus has spread through the zone, currently affecting a number of countries in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation. This epidemiological situation represents a major new risk for neighbouring countries of Europe and Asia.

Real-time laboratory exercises to test contingency plans for classical swine fever: experiences from two national laboratories.

In order to adequately and efficiently handle outbreaks of contagious diseases such as classical swine fever (CSF), foot and mouth disease or highly pathogenic avian influenza, competent authorities and the laboratories involved have to be well prepared and must be in possession of functioning contingency plans. These plans should ensure that in the event of an outbreak access to facilities, eq...

Experimental pig-to-pig transmission dynamics for African swine fever virus, Georgia 2007/1 strain

African swine fever virus (ASFV) continues to cause outbreaks in domestic pigs and wild boar in Eastern European countries. To gain insights into its transmission dynamics, we estimated the pig-to-pig basic reproduction number (R 0) for the Georgia 2007/1 ASFV strain using a stochastic susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered (SEIR) model with parameters estimated from transmission experiments....

Motion-based video monitoring for early detection of livestock diseases: The case of African swine fever

Early detection of infectious diseases can substantially reduce the health and economic impacts on livestock production. Here we describe a system for monitoring animal activity based on video and data processing techniques, in order to detect slowdown and weakening due to infection with African swine fever (ASF), one of the most significant threats to the pig industry. The system classifies an...

A highly sensitive and specific gel-based multiplex RT-PCR assay for the simultaneous and differential diagnosis of African swine fever and Classical swine fever in clinical samples.

The development and standardisation of a novel, highly sensitive and specific one-step hot start multiplex RT-PCR assay is presented for the simultaneous and differential diagnosis of African swine fever (ASF) and Classical swine fever (CSF). The method uses two primer sets, each one specific for the corresponding virus, amplifying DNA fragments different in length, allowing a gel-based differe...

Development of a Rapid and Sensitive Method for Detection of African Swine Fever Virus Using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification

A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay was developed for rapid, sensitive and specific detection of African swine fever virus (ASFV). A set of LAMP primers was designed based on the sequence of the ASFV gene K205R. Reaction temperature and time were optimized to 64 o C and 60 min, respectively. LAMP products were detected by agarose gel electrophoresis or visually with the additi...
